George Schroeder
George Schroeder creates steel sculpture and drawings using techniques and disciplines rooted in the
"direct method" approach to art. Since he creates only in the abstract vocabulary, Schroeder's sculptures
start without any preliminary drawings.
Ambient sounds, movement, and weather, along with abandoned factories, rail cars, and iron bridges
are just a few examples of sources of inspiration for the artist. His sculptures and drawings are noted
for their raw, bold quality, a result of the direct and immediate application of the artist's hand to the
material.
